Springfield, MO. — Eight Evangel University students will travel to England with Professor Steve Badger during Thanksgiving break, where they will join with students at Mattersey Hall to attend a series of classes called Intensives.
Mattersey Hall www.matterseyhall.com, located in Nottinghamshire, is a Christian College founded in London in 1919. It is the official Bible College and training center of the Assemblies of God in Great Britain and Ireland Incorporated.
Dr. Badger has been developing this trip for about three years. Mattersey Hall is planning to reciprocate by bringing a group of students to Evangel University sometime during the 2007-2008 academic year.
The students who are traveling include Megan Canupp, junior journalism major from Kansas City; Kristina Claunch, sophomore drama major from Pleasanton, Texas; Jennifer Dawson, sophomore social work major from Glen Burnie, Md.; Chantel Galipeau, senior math major from Dickinson, N.D.; Dani Picken, junior criminal justice major from Killdeer, N.D.; Megan Rooney, senior biology major from Springfield, Mo.; and Priscilla Yokomizo, junior psychology major from Englewood, Colo.
While at Mattersey Hall, the students will choose one of three Intensives, which they will attend four hours a day for four days (16 hours).
Badger will teach “The Effects of Popular Culture on the American Church and Her Mission.” Students will also be able to choose from a Performing Arts or Evangelism Intensive.
In addition, students will visit sights such as London and Stratford-upon-Avon.
“This weeklong visit will allow ample opportunity for the Evangel students to experience the people and culture of that part of England,” said Badger.
This trip is the first of what could be many exchanges between Evangel University and Mattersey Hall. “We hope to begin a regular exchange with Mattersey Hall–our visiting there alternating with them visiting here,” Badger said. “We are currently hoping they will be here [at Evangel] during the next academic year, perhaps in February 2008.”
