The Evangel men’s team will play at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, on Saturday, Nov. 18. Game time is 4 p.m. in Charles Field House. The game is the second straight Heart of America Athletic Conference game in a row for both teams.
Evangel is now 3-1 after getting its Heart of America Athletic Conference season off to a successful start on Nov. 16. The Crusaders managed to get past a talented Central Methodist team, 72-67. Tim Dial led EU with 16 points and five rebounds. Jackson Capel scored 15 points, Joel Brown added 14, and Jerod Floyd tallied 11 points. Shane Nicholson dished out eight assists. EU is ranked No. 3 on the preseason NAIA II poll.
Culver-Stockton began its Heart of America Athletic Conference schedule on Nov. 16 at Graceland and won 78-66. The Wildcats are now 3-2 overall. Brooks Allen scored 20 for Culver-Stockton. Dan Brooks totaled 19 points and eight rebounds. Coy Bainter added 16 markers. Tim Parrish joined Brooks as the top rebounders. Both had eight boards.
Evangel leads the series 35-15. EU won both games last season. The Crusaders defeated Culver-Stockton 65-54 at home and 63-55 in Canton, Mo. EU has won 11 of the last 12 contests with Culver-Stockton. EU’s only loss in that string was an 80-77 OT loss in Canton on Dec. 4, 2004.
Evangel is directed by head coach Steve Jenkins. Jenkins begins his 25th season in 2006-07 and has a 426-335 record. Jenkins’ 2001-02 team won the NAIA II national championship.
Brad Hoyt is Culver-Stockton’s head coach. Hoyt is in his second year at Culver-Stockton and has a 10-25 mark.
Evangel will play in the Pittsburg ( Kans.) State University Classic on Nov. 24-25. On Friday, Nov. 24, the Crusader will take on host Pittsburg State at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 25, EU will face Missouri Southern State at 5 p.m.
For the fifth year in a row, all Evangel University men’s basketball games will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio (KGMY, 1400 AM).
All Evangel men’s games are also webcast by Evangel’s 2006-07 Internet broadcast partner, All In Broadcasting, at www.allinbroadcasting.com. The postgame show will provide a complete recap of each game and it is sponsored by the Assemblies of God Credit Union. Evangel’s Internet partner is Best Western - Deerfield Inn.
Ed Beach, Evangel director of broadcasting and marketing for athletics, will handle the play-by-play duties as the “Voice of the Crusaders” for the fifth season in a row.
Beginning after Dec. 2 of this year, a selected men’s and women’s “game of the week” will be available for viewing about a week after the contest. The Evangel games can be viewed at All In Broadcasting, www.allinbroadcasting.com. All games will be archived up to one month after the season’s end. Fans can access a game for 99 cents for 24 hours or for $2.99 can watch the game unlimited times and download it as well.
All games are a simulcast with the radio coverage on ESPN 1400 AM and the video portion is produced by ECTV (Evangel Cable Television), Evangel’s student television station.
