Springfield, MO. —   Evangel University’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is partnering with Truman and Weller Elementary Schools to provide 102 fifth grade students with a business learning experience, in two phases.

During the first phase, Evangel’s SIFE team went into the fifth grade classrooms of the two schools. They taught the students the basics of both good and bad business through the use of interactive exercises and skits. The students learned to identify how revenue is generated and the nature of expenses.

The Evangel SIFE team has committed to repeat this program for both the Truman and Weller fifth graders in the spring at another business. They are also planning to offer the program to additional elementary schools.

Evangel’s SIFE team is seeking corporate sponsors to help cover the cost of transportation and supplies for these learning events.

John Mayes, junior accounting major from Humble, Texas; and Scott Richer, junior management major from Sanford, Maine, are the project leaders. Co-sponsors of the SIFE team are Elizabeth Fletcher, chair of the Business and Economics Department, and Bernie Dana, assistant professor of business.
