Springfield, MO. — Evangel University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team will be taking fifth grade students from Truman Elementary School to Incredible Pizza Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 12 to 1 p.m. The fifth graders will be putting into practice the basics of business they learned through the use of interactive exercises and skits in their classroom earlier this semester.
Due to inclement weather, Truman students were not able to participate in the Dec. 4 activity with the Weller Elementary students.
Truman’s fifth graders will be transported to Incredible Pizza Company to discover the basics of business in action. On a 5 to 1 ratio, they will be in teams mentored by an Evangel SIFE student. The students will identify how revenue is generated and search for all of the types of expenses they learned about in the classroom. The Incredible Pizza staff will explain the importance of providing a quality experience as part of having a good business.
Participating students will be rewarded with a special Biz Kidz t-shirt.
John Mayes, junior accounting major from Humble, Texas, and Scott Richer, junior management major from Sanford, Maine, are the project leaders. Co-sponsors of the SIFE team are Elizabeth Fletcher, chair of the Business and Economics Department, and Bernie Dana, assistant professor of business.
SIFE www.sife.org is an international nonprofit organization active on more than 1,800 university campuses in 40 countries. SIFE teams created economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics. Their projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.
