Springfield, MO. — Dale Garrett, assistant professor of public administration at Evangel University, is one of three West Liberty State College graduates inducted into the college’s Alumni Wall of Honor on Oct. 19, 2006.
The WLSC Alumni Association board of directors created the Wall in 1990 to honor successful graduates. Each year, new inductees are named and added to the display, showcased in the WLSC Alumni Lounge of the College Union.
Garrett was inducted along with Marty Adams, president and CEO of The Citizens Banking Company, and Terence A. Shimp, former chair of the University of South Carolina’s marketing department.
Garrett, a retired Lt. Col. and U.S. Air Force Chief Integration Branch, was captain of the WLSC football team during his senior year (’74) and once held the rushing record for most yards and rushes in a single game. He has also taught at Real Life Christian Academy, directed a youth group home and played football for the Tuscarawas County Vikings (Ohio) from 1974-’78.
In 1979, Garrett joined the U.S. Air Force. During his Air Force career, Garrett flew 3,000 hours, commanded three squadrons, earned the Bronze Star during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and served in the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador. He also developed the newest fully electronic U.S. training range for the B-52, B-1 and B-2.
He earned a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.
Garrett retired from the Air Force in December 2002 and became a member of the faculty at Evangel University. He teaches courses in public administration, government, economics and geography.
He and his wife, Martha, live in Springfield, Mo. They have three grown children.
