The Florida, Oklahoma Itinerary

The Evangel women will enjoy a trip to Florida with stops at Northwood University in West Palm Beach on Dec. 19 and at Lynn University on Dec. 21 in Boca Raton for basketball games.

The Lady Crusaders departed Springfield on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 7 a.m. and will return to EU on Saturday, Dec. 23.

The team will take a three-day break before returning to practice on Wednesday, Dec. 27, to begin its Oklahoma trip with an exhibition game at Oral Roberts in Tulsa on Friday, Dec. 29, and a game at Southern Nazarene in Bethany on Saturday, Dec. 30.

The Medical Report

Abi Brock broke her hand in the EU ladies’ exhibition game at the University of Central Missouri on Dec. 12 and will be out until Jan. 10.

DeAndra Davis will not make the Florida trip due to team disciplinary action. Her status will be re-evaluated when the team returns.

Mallory Allen, who has not played this season, had ankle surgery on Dec. 14. She will miss the remainder of the season.

Amy Szczepanik was given the green light to participate in the Central Missouri exhibition game after suffering a concussion versus Benedictine on Dec. 2. She missed the MidAmerica Nazarene (Dec. 7) and Graceland (Dec. 9) games.

Series

Evangel will be playing Lynn University and Northwood University for the first time.

Northwood’s First Season Ever

The 2006-07 season is the first-ever for the Northwood Seahawks Northwood is a NAIA II member and will compete in the Florida Sun Conference.

 Lynn’s National Allegiance

The Lynn University Fighting Knights are DII members of the NCAA. Lynn plays in the Sunshine State Conference.

 Records

Evangel is 1-8 overall. The Lady Crusaders will attempt to break a five-game losing streak in Florida. EU’s most recent game resulted in a 72-68 loss at home to Graceland.

Northwood is (5-3) after hosting the College Bookstores of America Lady Seahawk Tourney on Dec.16-17. The Seahawks played Iowa Wesleyan on the 16th and lost, 97-63. On the 17th, Northwood met Milligan in the consolation game and lost, 66-64. Northwood received votes on the Dec. 13 NAIA II national poll.

Lynn is 5-1 heading into it’s home game against Wimington on Dec. 19. The Fighting Knights will then host Evangel on the 21st.

The Coaches

Evangel is led by Leon Neal (Evangel, 1989). Neal has a 284-132 record in 13 years at Evangel.

John Thurston (Seton Hall, 1970) is Northwood’s first-ever head women’s basketball coach. Thurston is 5-3.

Lynn University is directed by Pam DeCosta in her fourth year. DeCosta is 33-56 in three seasons and has faced the last two seasons with major injury problems to her players

EU Stat Leaders

After Florida

After returning from Florida on Saturday, Dec. 23, the Lady Crusaders will take three days off before returning to the hardwood for practice on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The team will then leave for Oklahoma on Thursday, Dec. 28. The Evangel ladies will play an exhibition game at Oral Roberts in Tulsa on Friday, Dec. 29, at 7:05 p.m. The next day, the Lady Crusaders will play at Southern Nazarene in Bethany at 4 p.m.

Two Tie Scoring Output

Abi Brock scored 15 points and Kristin Metzger poured in 16 versus Graceland on Dec. 9 to establish new personal scoring highs.

Rebound Highs Set, Tied

Against Graceland, Abi Brock set a new personal rebounding best of six caroms. DeAndra Davis brought down a career-tying four boards. Kristin Metzger also tied her career best with nine rebounds. Kate Prentice controlled two rebounds to tie her previous season best.

Radio

In addition to all of their postseason games, two regular season Lady Crusader basketball games will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio, KGMY 1400 AM. The games are at MidAmerica Nazarene on Dec. 7 and at College of the Ozarks on Jan. 23.

Internet

Every Lady Crusader basketball game will be carried live on the web, with the exception of the games at Missouri Southern on Nov. 24-25, the games on the Florida trip (Dec. 19 and 21), and the games on the Oklahoma trip (Oral Roberts exhibition game on Dec. 29, Southern Nazarene on Dec. 30). The Evangel basketball games are carried by All In Broadcasting at www.allinbroadcasting.com. The postgame show will provide a complete recap of each game and it is sponsored by the Assemblies of God Credit Union. Evangel’s Internet partner is Best Western - Deerfield Inn.

“Voice of the Crusaders”

Ed Beach, Evangel director of broadcasting and marketing for athletics, will handle the play-by-play duties as the “Voice of the Crusaders” for the fifth season in a row.

Video

After Dec. 2 of this year, a selected men’s and women’s “game of the week” will be available for viewing about a week after the contest. The Evangel games can be viewed at All In Broadcasting, www.allinbroadcasting.com. All games will be archived up to one month after the season’s end. Fans can access a game for 99 cents for 24 hours or for $2.99 can watch the game unlimited times and download it as well.

All games are a simulcast with the radio coverage on ESPN 1400 AM and the video portion is produced by ECTV (Evangel Cable Television), Evangel’s student television station.
