Springfield, Mo. — Rep. Todd Tiahrt, U.S. Congressman to the Fourth Congressional District of Kansas, is the recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus Award. The Evangel University Alumni Association will present the award October 12, during the Homecoming chapel service.
Tiahrt earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Evangel in 1975. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Missouri State University.
Tiahrt served on the Kansas Senate from 1993–1995. He has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1995.
Tiahrt was appointed to the House Appropriations Committee in 1997 and serves as the senior Republican on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies.
Tiahrt is also a member of the Defense Subcommittee.He is the only current member of the U.S. House of Representatives to sit on both the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Tiahrt is the chairman and founder of the House Economic Competitiveness Caucus. Through this committee, Tiahrt strives to increase the ability for U.S. workers to compete in a global economy.
Before serving in Congress, Tiahrt worked for the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kan., for nearly 14 years. He worked on a variety of aerospace projects including the Space Station, Air Force One and the Comanche Helicopter.
Tiahrt’s voting record has earned him recognition from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business. He has also been named a Super Friend of Seniors, Champion of Private Property Rights and a Taxpayer’s Hero.
Todd met his future wife, Vicki (Holland ’76) at Evangel; they have been blessed with three children.
