Springfield, Mo. — Dr. Dayton A. Kingsriter is recipient of the 2007 Evangel University Alumni Association President’s Award, in recognition of a 40-year career dedicated to education and ministry.
The award will be presented October 12 during Evangel’s Homecoming chapel service.
Dr. Kingsriter is the director of Christian Higher Education for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, where he has worked since 1992.
A 1965 Evangel graduate, Dr. Kingsriter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with minors in Music and Social Studies. He earned his Master of Education, Education Specialist and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Throughout his career as an educator, Dr. Kingsriter also dedicated himself to ministry. Early in his career, he served concurrently in public schools and church positions in Missouri and Nebraska. He then served as minister of Christian education at prominent churches in Illinois.
From 1982-1992, he served as the academic dean of Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, N.D.
“I thank God for His call on my life and the opportunity to serve Him,” Dr. Kingsriter said. He believes Evangel helped fulfill his life’s calling.
“The courses that I took and the Christian atmosphere combined to be an excellent place to have my calling to be an elementary school teacher nurtured and developed,” Kingsriter said.
“I also was a music minor, and the courses and groups in which I participated prepared me to be a music minister in several churches,” he added.
As a student at Evangel, Dr. Kingsriter was involved in a number of activities. He served as a class treasurer and later as student body president. He also assisted in writing an administrative manual for student government.
“All of these positions helped prepare me with administrative skills that I was able to use later in life as I moved from a classroom teacher to an administrator,” Dr. Kingsriter said.
In his current position Dr. Kingsriter has developed standardized criteria for the endorsement of Assemblies of God colleges and universities. He also coordinates faculty seminars and conferences, as well as a summer practicum for students pursuing missions work.
As a community volunteer, he is involved with the Restorative Justice Board in Springfield, Mo.
Dr. Kingsriter’s wife of 41 years, Marilyn, is an associate professor of education at Evangel. They have two children and five grandchildren.
