Evangel's home football game this Saturday against MidAmerica Nazarene will feature special tailgate activities as part of the Helping Heroes Football Classic presented by the Assemblies of God Credit Union and radio station KSGF (104.1 FM and 1260 AM). For $5, fans can take part in a hamburger and hot dog cookout and hear the local contemporary Christian band Freedomhouse. Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of JFK Stadium. Kickoff for the game is at 1:30 p.m. The event will celebrate those that have served in the U.S. military in addition to those on active duty. Veterans and active military and their families will be admitted free to the game when they show their military ID at the ticket window. Evangel will also hold a special fund-raising event at halftime for Eagles Summit Ranch, a facility in Colorado for severely injured veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq and operated by evangelist Dave Roever. Roever, a renowned evangelist and public speaker, is a Vietnam veteran who was wounded by a phosphorous grenade. Severely burned and hospitalized for 14 months, Roever persevered through his injuries and disfigurement to launch a ministry that reaches youth groups, public schools, military organizations and many other Christian outreach programs worldwide.
