Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University theatre students will be performing their version of “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz” at 10 local elementary schools this semester.
The children will be able to attend the performances free of charge.
“I remember how much I loved theatre in school, and I just want kids to be exposed to theatre and see a play,” said Jessica Smith, senior and student director. “If you get kids interested in theatre early, they will either get involved or be attendees for life.”
Smith, a theatre major with a minor in psychology, is the daughter of Dale and Jaqueline Smith of Saint Albans, W. Va.
It is required that all theatre majors at Evangel direct a play as part of their senior project.
The cast will be traveling as follows:
A preview performance will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, as a part of Evangel University’s Homecoming Week.
