Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University Orchestra will present its fall concert Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Theatre. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to attend.
One of the featured works on this all orchestral program is David Kraehenbuehl’s 1962 work, A Concert of the Humours. This work presents an interesting portrait in music of each of the classic Greek personality types—Melancholic, Choleric, Phlegmatic, and Sanguine.
A student of Paul Hindemith, Kraehenbuehl followed his teacher as head of the music theory department at Yale University in the 1950s. Hindemith referred to Kraehenbuehl as “the most gifted student I have ever had.”
In addition to the Kraehenbuehl, the Orchestra will perform Smetana’s “Dance of the Comedians,” and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major.
The Evangel University Orchestra is honored to have been selected to perform at the annual Missouri Music Educators Convention, to be held January 23-26, 2008, at Tan-Tar-A resort in Osage Beach, Mo.
Dr. Larry Dissmore, director of orchestras, has served on the Evangel University faculty since 1988. An accomplished violinist, Dissmore received his musical education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Wichita State University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
