Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University Symphonic Band will present a concert featuring works of American composers at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in Evangel’s chapel auditorium.
There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to attend.
This will be the first concert under the direction of Dr. Michael Kolstad, new Symphonic Band conductor and music department chairman.
“This concert will be featuring works written by American composers,” said Dr. Kolstad. “The majority of the pieces have been written in the past 20 years.”
The program includes “Whirlwind” and “Windsprints” by Richard Saucedo, “Sky in Waiting” by Samuel Hazo, “Fantasia in G” by Timothy Mahr, “Symphonic Fanfare” by Mark Camphouse, “Hands Across the Sea” by John Philip Souza, and “Amazing Grace” arranged by Frank Ticheli.
Kolstad has served as a member of the Evangel University music faculty since 1991. In May 2007, he was named department chair upon the retirement of former chair and band director John Shows. An accomplished musician specializing in trombone, euphonium, tuba, and jazz studies, Kolstad received both his master’s (1990) and doctoral (1996) degrees in trombone performance from the University of North Carolina- Greensboro. He is a 1988 graduate of Evangel.
