EU professor featured in recital at SAGU Homecoming

Springfield, Mo. — Dr. John Akins, professor of music at Evangel University, recently performed a piano recital at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. The performance was featured as part of the SAGU Homecoming celebration.

In addition to two of his own compositions, the recital featured works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Piston.

Akins graduated from Southwestern High School in 1957 before it was discontinued to make room for then-Southwestern Assemblies of God College. The class of ’57 was highlighted at the SAGU Homecoming.

He has been teaching music at Evangel since 1977.
