Springfield, Mo. — Seven Evangel University business students attended the Phi Beta Lambda National Fall Leadership Conference Nov. 9-10 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The leadership conference hosted more than 3,000 students and featured keynote speaker Scott Seay, CEO of Build-a-Bear and former manager of Home Depot.
The conference also included eight workshop sessions as well as “Battle of the States,” a game-show style competition in which the participants from each state answered business questions to avoid elimination.
Phi Beta Lambda is the college division of Future Business Leaders of America. With more than 240,000 members, FBLA-PBL is the largest student business organization in the United States.
While in Cincinnati, the Evangel students and their faculty adviser, Business Department Chair Elizabeth Fletcher, were given personalized tours of businesses in the area.
The brand manager for cosmetics marketing at Proctor & Gamble gave the group a personalized tour of the P&G Headquarters.
“In the Heritage Center students learned about brand marketing from the foremost experts in the field,” said Fletcher. “Interesting facts for success included how P&G commissioned famous painters like Norman Rockwell to design baby portraits for the advertising of Ivory Soap.”
Evangel alumnus John Bartlett (’86), manager of the new Creation Museum and Bookstore, conducted a tour of the administrative offices and the museum.
“John instructed the students in marketing strategies, management effectiveness gauges, and provided spreadsheets illustrating financial accountability and measurement tools,” said Fletcher. “The tour included the radio production facilities, product development venues, video and magazine design facilities, and the warehouse.”
More than 250,000 people have toured the museum since it opened in May. For more information, visit Creation Museum or Answers in Genesis.
The Evangel students in attendance were Bryan Dockery, senior from Shepherdsville, Ky.; Amanda Ellsworth, senior from Shawnee Mission, Kan.; Tausha Fletcher, junior from Springfield, Mo.; Jordan Izumi, senior from Kaneohe, Hawaii; Michael Kincheloe, senior from Pleasant Valley, Mo.; Shaunna Mitchell, freshman from Shepherdville, Ky.; Nick Reasor, freshman from Nixa, Mo; and dual-enrolled Hillcrest High School student, Josh Fletcher.
