Small ensembles to perform fall concert

Springfield, MO. — The Evangel University Concert Bells, Strings, Woodwind, and Brass Ensembles will perform in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Barnett Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Concert Bells, under the direction of Beth McLellan, will play “Advent Celebration” by Phyllis S. Kirk, “Festiva” by Kevin McChesney, “Jingle Bells” arranged by Cynthia Dobrinski and “That Glorious Song of Old” by Tammy Waldrop.

The String Ensemble will play “Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra with Piano Obbligato” by Ernest Bloch. Dr. Larry Dissmore is the conductor.

The Woodwind Ensemble, also directed by McLellan, will perform “Sonatina No. 1” by Holcombe/Kabelsky; “Suite of Carols” by Leroy Anderson, and “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

The Brass Ensemble, directed by Tim Wootton, will perform “Keystone Celebration” by John Cheetham. The piece was commissioned by the Summit Brass and premiered in 1989 in commemoration of the Keystone Brass Institute in Keystone, Colo.
