Four Volleyball Players Attain All-Conference Status, One on All-Region Team

The 2007 Evangel volleyball team is represented by four players on the All-Heart of America Athletic Conference volleyball team and three of the players are products of Rogersville, Mo.

Junior Julie O’Dell-Griffith (6-0, MH, Rogersville) earned first team all-conference membership and is also a first team All-NAIA Region V pick. O’Dell-Griffith led Evangel with averages of 4.4 kills and 1.5 blocks per game. She finished the season with a 36.0 kill percentage. O’Dell-Griffith tallied 603 kills and 201 blocks.

Lady Crusaders earning second team all-conference honors are seniors Kristina Mooney (5-8, L, Rogersville) and Ashleigh Sullivan (5-10, OH, Overland Park, Kans.). As a libero, Mooney averaged a team-high 6.2 digs per game and also led the Lady Crusaders with her 94.5 passing percentage (893-945). Mooney had a 96.5 service percentage (555-575) and 20 aces. Sullivan was Evangel’s second-leading hitter. She averaged 1.9 kills per game and had a 23.7 kill percentage. Sullivan totaled 263 kills and had 60 blocks.

Senior Shannon Yates (5-4, DS, Rogersville) is the fourth Lady Crusader earning 2007 all-conference honors. She is an honorable mention choice. Yates led Evangel with 43 aces and her 700 digs are the second-most by an Evangel player in 2007.

The 2007 EU volleyball team finished its season with a 24-13 record and tied for second place in the conference standings with William Jewell (7-3). The 2007 Lady Crusaders made history by being the first Evangel team ever to advance to the semifinal round of the NAIA Region V tournament.
