Rebekah HolmesSpringfield, Mo. — Rebekah Holmes, sophomore mathematics major at Evangel University, was a presenter at the third regional Undergraduate Math Research Conference held Nov. 10 at Missouri State University. The conference was jointly hosted by Evangel University.

Undergraduate college students from Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma were invited to submit their research papers for evaluation. Seven students’ papers were accepted for presentation at the conference.

Holmes’ presentation, “An Alternative Method of Linear Regression,” earned a $50 cash award and the opportunity to publish her work.

“Research by a sophomore is unusual,” said her adviser, Dr. Don Tosh, professor of mathematics. “I was pleased to have her participate.”

The six other student presenters represented Missouri State University, Truman State University, Drury University and the University of Central Missouri.

Holmes has also received an invitation to present her thesis at the regional conference of Kappa Mu Epsilon in Pittsburg, Kan., in April.

Holmes is the daughter of John and Deborah Holmes of Colona, Ill.
