The Lady Crusaders have a 41- 23 overall lead in the series with Central Methodist. Evangel had won 12 in a row (eight at home) Prior to CMU’s 58-55 win in Springfield last season (Nov. 16).
Evangel traveled to Fayette, Mo. and Central Methodist handed the Lady Crusaders a 75-66 loss.
Evangel led 38-32 at the half, but
couldn’t hold off CMU in the second
half (43-28). With its inside game
working well, Central Methodist
made 55.3 percent of its field goals,
shooting just seven 3-pointers and making one. At the line, CMU hit 22 of
34 for a 64.7 percentage. Evangel,
meanwhile, bombed away from
outside and made 33.3 percent of its
efforts (7-21) and finished with a 38.7
field goal percentage (.415 on 2-
pointers). CMU controlled the
rebounding, 40-30.
Evangel’s scoring was led by the
23 points from Brianna Mingus.
Mingus made 8 of 13 from the field,
including 5 of 8 3-pointers, hit both of
her free throws. Kelsie Hargus also
scored in double figures, totaling 10
points. Kate Prentice came off the
bench to top EU’s rebounding with
nine caroms.
Central Methodist had three
players scoring in double digits.
Danielle Boraz scored 23 points, Holly
Wade had 18 and Stephanie Todd
chipped in 13 points. Boraz finished
with a double-double, grabbing 11
rebounds to go with her 23 points.
