Overall: Evangel holds a 28-26 lead versus Culver-Stockton. EU had won 13 straight against Culver-Stockton before losing 64-50 in Canton, Mo., during the 2005-06 season. This season, EU defeated Culver-Stockton, 75-60, at home on Dec. 1.

Russell Watch

Evangel’s Caitlin Russell has averaged more points over the last five games than any other Lady Crusader. With her career-best 32-point outburst on Jan. 24, Russell is now averaging 14.8 points per game over those five contests.

Russell Leads EU past CMU

The Lady Crusaders played host to the Central Methodist Lady Eagles on Jan. 24 and won 82-71. Central Methodist led by one, 35-34, at the half, however, Evangel would claim the lead in the second 20 minutes with a 48-36 advantage.

Central Methodist shot better from the field (.585 to .475) and made 6-of-7 treys to EU’s 12 of 26 (.462). At the line, EU made 14 of 18 (.778) and CMU shooters connected on 17 of 24 (.708). The rebounding was close (EU 28, CMU 26), however, Central Methodist had more turnovers (17-12). A glaring difference was the bench scoring. EU’s bench outscored the CMU bench, 53-11.

EU’s Caitlin Russell scorched the Ashcroft Center nets, totaling a career-high 32 points. Russell came off the bench to score 32, the most points scored by any Lady Crusader this season. She made 6-of-9 3-pointers, all eight of her free throw tries, and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds. Katie Burger added 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Ashlee Luko led all passers with six assists. Tag Morris contributed six assists and a game-high four steals.

CMU’s Holly Wade led the Lady Eagles with 22 points and five rebounds. Danielle Boraz scored 13 points. Boraz also shared rebounding honors with Wade (5) and dished out five assists. Taylor Cunningham also was credited with five assists.
