The Lady Crusaders were outscored 15-9 in overtime and lost at Avila, 82-76, on Jan. 31.

Evangel made just 40.0 percent of its field goals and allowed Avila to make 61.0 percent. Avila made just 4-of-8 3-pointers, while Evangel bombed away 30 times and made just nine treys (.300). Both teams had a good night at the line. Evangel made 23-of-29 for a 79.3 percentage and Avila hit 28-of-33 for an 84.8 percentage.

EU had fewer turnovers, 15-20, but Avila led the rebounding, 31-23.

Katie Burger (17), Brianna Mingus (15), Ashlee Luko (12) and Whitney Pollard (10) scored in double figures for Evangel. Burger came off the bench to score her career-high 17 points.. EU’s rebounding was led by Luko’s five boards.

Ashley Townsend (24), Jaime Kenney (20), Alyson Young (15) and Sarah Parker (10) were Avila’s double-digit scorers. Young and Townsend each had seven rebounds.

No. 10 BC vs. No. 15 WJC

Nationally-ranked (NAIA II) Benedictine and William Jewell met in Atchison, Kans., on Jan. 31 and the host Ravens won 67-55. William Jewell led 32-27 at the half, however, Benedictine had a 40-23 second-half advantage to record the win. Benedictine had three players score in double figures. Leah Stuhlsatz had 16 (9 rebounds), Courtney Edmonds tallied 15) and Nicole Reilly had 10 points.

This is the first meeting this year. During 2006-07, BC won 77-66 in overtime in Ashcroft Center and EU won 65-68 in Atchison, Kans.

Evangel holds a 28-10 series advantage against Benedictine. The teams split their games in 2006-07, winning on the other team’s home floor. Bendictine won 77-66 in OT at Evangel and Evangel then won 65-58 at BC.

In Atchison, Evangel has an 12-7 advantage, won last year’s game at BC after losing 64-53 during the 2005-06 season. Prior to the 2005-06 loss, Evangel had won four straight on BC’s home floor.
