No. 10 Benedictine played host to the Evangel ladies on Feb. 2 and the Lady Crusaders nearly defeated Benedictine. The Lady Ravens led 35-33 at the half, but the game stayed close to the end with Benedictine winning 67-63.
Tag Morris led EU with a season-high 15 points. She also had three rebounds, two assists and a trio of steals. Brianna Mingus added 11 points and Whitney Pollard contributed 10 points.
Benedictine’s Melinda Morris led all scorers with 16 points off the bench. Angeline Finazzo, who also didn’t start, chipped in 11 points.
The Lady Crusaders were whistled for 24 fouls to BC’s 14 and Benedictine took advantage of the its chances at the stripe. BC made 27 of 31 from the free throw line (.871). The Evangel women made 11 of 13 (.846).
Evangel outscored the Lady Ravens 23-7 on second-chance points and hit 8 of 19 3-pointers (.421) to BC’s 4 of 8. Benedictine went to its inside game and bench, outscoring EU 24-14 and 42-28, respectively.
On Jan. 28, MNU defeated Evangel in Ashcroft Center, 47-41
EU leads the series, 36-12, however, MNU has a current six-game winning streak vs. EU. Evangel has a 16-7 series advantage at MNU. MNU has, however, won the last three meetings in Olathe, Kans. The Lady Crusaders had won five straight prior to MNU’s current winning streak on its home floor.
Tag Morris will wear No. 20 the remainder of the year. She has been No. 22 the past nine games.
MidAmerica Nazarene traveled to Culver-Stockton on Feb. 2 and won 80-73 to register their fourth straight win.
Two double-doubles by MNU made the difference. JoeNel Henning had 20 points and 10 assists. Jenna Matson scored 32 points and had 17 rebounds with three steals and three blocks. Ashley Patterson added 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and rejected four shots.
