Nicholson Nearing 1,000 Points

Evangel’s Shane Nicholson has now scored 990 points - just 10 shy of 1,000. When he makes his 1000th point, he will become the fourth player on the 2007-08 team to score over 1,000 points.

Capel Gets 100 Ball Thefts

EU’s Jackson Capel now has 105 steals and is the 27th Crusader to tally 100 steals and ranks No. 21. Teammate Shane Nicholson has 110 and is No. 18 on the career list.

EU Drops OT Game at MNU

Both EU and MNU were coming off overtime wins heading into their game in Olathe, Kansas, on Feb. 7. And, once again, both teams needed overtime to decide this game that featured No. 2 Evangel vs. No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene. The MNU Pioneers got revenge for EU’s 79-65 win in Springfield on Jan. 28, by defeating Evangel 93-85. MNU outscored EU 19-11 in the extra 5-minute period.

Evangel’s Jackson Capel poured in 33 points, brought down seven rebounds and was credited with four steals. Todd Simon turned in a 16-point, 6-rebound performance and Tim Dial came off the bench to score 10 points and control six rebounds.

MNU’s Adam Hepker countered with 36 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals to lead MNU over EU.

The Crusaders were called for 22 fouls and MNU made 30 of 40 at the line (.750). MNU had 11 fouls and EU made 16 of 17 free throws (.941). MNU controlled the boards, 46-37. The turnovers were fairly even (MNU 14, EU 12).

Graceland Handles Baker

Graceland defeated Baker, 79-75, in Lamoni, Iowa, on Feb. 7. Andrew Williams (17 points), Mike Malat (16) and Simon Morefield (14) scored in double figures for GU. Williams also led Graceland with eight rebounds. Baker committed 19 turnovers to Graceland’s 5.

Moving Up

Todd Simon pulled down six in EU’s overtime loss at MidAmerica Nazarene on Feb. 7 to up his career total to 742 and move him up to No. 3 on the career list. He trails Barry Kemp (1994-98), who had 832 rebounds and Jeff Zilinski (1975-79), who totaled 991 rebounds.

Shane Nicholson now has 990 points, just 10 shy of 1,000. He will be the fourth 2007-08 player to achieve the milestone. In addition, Nicholson dished out six assists vs. MidAmerica Nazarene on Feb. 7 to move his career total up to 416. He needs seven to move past Shawn Kuhn’s No. 2 spot (422) and 24 to become the all-time career assist leader. That honor now belongs to Brian Soukup (1995-99), who had 439 assists.
