Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University’s chapter of Alpha Chi, a national academic honor society, will be recognized with a Star Chapter Award at the 2008 Region IV Conference, which will be held at Evangel March 27-29.
Thirty-eight Alpha Chi chapters nationwide qualified to receive 2006-07 Star Chapter Awards; however, Evangel University and Westminster College are the only Region IV chapters that qualified.
Region IV includes 10 states: Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Montana.
“To merit the Star Chapter Award, six criteria must be met,” said Dr. Laynah Rogers, co-sponsor of Evangel’s Alpha Chi chapter. “These include sending delegates to the regional and national conventions, sponsoring a scholarly program on campus, and having at least one student presentation at the regional and national conventions.”
Officers of Evangel’s chapter this year are as follows:
Alpha Chi, founded in 1922, is a national honor society in which membership is limited to the top 10 percent of junior and senior classes. Alpha Chi has more than 300 chapters nationwide. The objectives of the society are to promote and to recognize scholarship and those elements of character, which make scholarship effective for service.
Alpha Chi members at Evangel must have at least a 3.84 grade point average, on the 4.0 scale, to be eligible.
