The Evangel basketball teams will make the trip to Liberty, Missouri, on Thursday, Feb. 21, to face William Jewell College in the Mabee Center. The women’s game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game will start at 7:30.
Evangel’s men (23-5, 16-2 HAAC) moved up to No. 3 on today’s NAIA II national poll. The Crusaders are coming off an 80-64 home victory against Benedictine on Feb. 18. On Feb. 16, William Jewell (17-11, 13-5 HAAC) lost 61-53 at Central Methodist. When Evangel and William Jewell met in Springfield on Jan. 17 of this season, the Crusaders won 85-78.
The Evangel women are coming off an upset win against No. 9-ranked Benedictine on Feb. 18. The Lady Crusaders (12-14, 9-9 HAAC) defeated Benedictine 62-59 on three free throws by Brianna Mingus with 1.6 seconds left in the game. William Jewell (22-6, 15-3 HAAC) is ranked No. 16 on today’s NAIA II national poll. The Lady Cardinals won at Central Methodist, 71-48, on Feb. 16. The first meeting between the Evangel and William Jewell women this season resulted in a 6-point William Jewell victory, 59-53, on Jan. 17 in Springfield.
Following their games at William Jewell, the Evangel basketball teams will close out the regular portion of their 2007-08 schedules at home against Baker University on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game times are 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. The seniors from both teams will be honored between games.
