Four Crusaders on Men’s All-Conference Basketball Team

Jackson Capel (6-3, Jr., G), Todd Simon (6-6, Sr., F), Shane Nicholson (6-0, Jr., G) and Tim Dial (6-7, Sr., F) represent Evangel on the 2007-08 All-Heart of America Athletic Conference team. Capel is a first team pick and Simon is a second team selection. Nicholson and Dial won third team honors.

Capel leads the team in scoring with a 21.7 points per game average. He is also averaging 4.6 rebounds. From the 3-point arc, Capel has made 115 of 240 for a 47.9 percentage and from the free throw line he has connected on 117 of 138 for an 84.8 percentage. The Erlanger, Ky., product has set three 3-point school records during the season. He made nine 3-pointers at Missouri Valley on Jan. 12 to set a new single game mark. Capel’s 115 3-pointers scored this season and his 285 career 3-pointers are also school records. Capel has scored 1,526 points to date and ranks No. 11 on the all-time list in that category.

Simon, who hails from Bellevue, Neb., averages 10.6 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds per contest. He has made 59.1 percent of his field goals this season and leads the team with 22 blocks. Simon ranks No. 3 on the all-time Evangel rebounding list and is No. 14 in career scoring. He has grabbed 771 rebounds and scored 1,354 points. In addition, Simon’s 60 career blocked shot total ranks No. 5 at Evangel.

Nicholson is EU’s starting point guard. He averages 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Nicholson has made 15 of 43 3-pointers for a 34.9 percentage. From the free throw line, the Ash Grove, Mo. native has made 72 of 85 for an 84.7 percentage. Nicholson has set a new career assist record this season. He has dished out 450 assists. In addition, Nicholson is ranked No. 23 on the all-time scoring list with 1,051 points.

Dial averages 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and has blocked 17 shots. Dial missed a month during the holidays with mononucleosis - a total of five games - but returned to playing shape quickly. From the field, Dial has made 48.2 percent of his shots and his rebounding average is second-highest on the team. Dial is ranked No. 5 in career rebounds at Evangel and is No. 9 in career points. A Springfield, Mo. (Hillcrest) product, Dial has tallied 723 rebounds and scored 1,551 points.
