Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University is about to reach another academic milestone. This spring, the national Assemblies of God university of arts, sciences and professions will celebrate its 50th commencement ceremony.

The graduation service will be held Friday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m., in the James River Assembly of God auditorium.

“Nearly 4,000 family and friends will be present to celebrate, when more than 400 students walk the line,” said Evangel spokesman Paul K. Logsdon.

“Exact numbers for traditional bachelor’s degree students, adult degree completion students and master’s level students will be available in April,” he added.

Speaker announced

Dr. George O. Wood, the newly elected general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, will be the guest speaker.

A member of Evangel’s class of 1962, Dr. Wood graduated with majors in history, religion and philosophy.  He served as an Evangel faculty member and as director of spiritual life/student life, from 1965-71.

In addition, his wife, Jewel, is a 1964 Evangel graduate with a degree in elementary education.

“Dr. Wood is the first Evangel graduate to hold the top position of our Fellowship,” said President Robert H. Spence. “We are honored to have him join us for this special celebration.”

Evangel was founded in 1955.

The University annually enrolls approximately 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, and offers more than 100 academic programs that are on the cutting edge of today’s professional fields.

Evangel is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, the National Association of Schools of Music, and the Council on Social Work Education.
