Springfield, Mo. — Nicholas Reasor recently represented the Evangel University Students in Free Enterprise at the AIG Credit Counseling Challenge training seminar in New York City.
Reasor, a management major at Evangel, is the son of Jay and Vickie Reasor of Nixa, Mo. He is also a 2007 graduate of Nixa High School.
The seminar was part of a three-year program that concludes in the fall of 2010.
“The Evangel University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is one of only 120 teams nationwide that received a three-year grant from American International Group, Inc.,” said Reasor. “At the seminar, I received training on how to implement the grant at Evangel.”
The purpose of the grant is to teach SIFE students about innovative and creative programs designed to help people in their educational communities understand the importance of credit management.
To keep the grant, the SIFE team must conduct and complete a project for college freshmen and seniors each year during the three years of the challenge.
“We’ll be judged on how well we teach others,” said Elizabeth Fletcher, chair of the business and economics department.
“Every six months, the SIFE team will send a report to the AIG Credit Counseling Challenge to show that they have met the criteria set forth by AIG,” Fletcher said.
The Evangel SIFE team is one of only 120 teams—out of 1,800 SIFE teams in the United States—selected to participate in the AIG Credit Counseling Challenge.
SIFE USA received a three-year, $990,000 grant from AIG to fund a credit-counseling program that will challenge SIFE teams to teach their peers about the responsible use of credit.
SIFE is an international nonprofit organization active on more than 1,800 university campuses in 40 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects to teach market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics. Their projects are judged at competitions on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.
