Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University Jazz Ensemble, joined by the Drury University Jazz Ensemble and professional trumpeter Arzo Tureaud, will perform Tuesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The first half of the concert will feature the Drury Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Tina Claussen. The concert will also highlight Springfield native and professional trumpeter, Arzo Tureaud.

The Evangel Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Warner, will perform diverse works for jazz big band by Frank Foster (Count Basie Orchestra arranger), Mark Taylor, Michael Philip Mossman and Alan Blaylock.

“We use a traditional ‘big band’ instrumentation, which is usually between 15-20 members, including saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass, guitar, drum set and percussion,” Warner said. “This ensemble exists to serve Evangel students, give them an opportunity to play and learn about jazz and to contribute to the artistic life of the whole university population.”

For additional information about the concert, contact Lynne Hall at (417) 865-2815 ext. 7212 or Matt Warner ext 7213.
