Softball Players Win Weekly Conference and Region Honors

Springfield, Mo. — Evangel’s Stef Beaverson and Kimberly Williams have been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively. In addition, Beaverson was named the NAIA Region V player of the week. The Lady Crusaders swept Baker and Avila, split with MidAmerica Nazarene, and won both contests at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College during the week.

Beaverson (Sr., OF) hit at a .480 pace during Evangel’s 7-1 week to win the league’s player of the week honor. She scored 13 runs and added 15 RBIs. Six of her 12 hits were home runs and two were triples, giving her a 1.36 slugging average for the week. Beaverson set new Evangel records with most home runs in a game (3), most consecutive home runs (3) and most home runs in a doubleheader (4). Her single game records and doubleheader record were set at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, Okla., on Mar. 29. Beaverson set the single-game marks in the first game and added another home run in the second.

Williams (Jr.) finished her week on the mound with a 1.06 ERA and 3-1 record. She made seven appearances and worked 26.1 innings, gave up only six runs and four were earned. Williams registered 34 strikeouts in her six games and walked only five batters. She had a shutout versus Avila on Mar. 25 (6-0) and shared a shutout with junior Cara Bowling vs. Hillsdale Baptist on Mar. 29.

The Lady Crusaders are currently 16-8 overall and have an 8-2 conference record. Evangel’s next action will come today (April 4) in the Oklahoma City University Domino’s Invitational. The EU ladies face St. Gregory’s at 10 a.m. on field 4 and Ottawa at 4 p.m. on stadium field at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. On Saturday, April 5, pool play begins at 10 a.m. The championship game is at 8 p.m. on stadium field and the consolation championship game will be played at the same time on field 4.
