Springfield, Mo. — The Water Well Project is a student led initiative at Evangel University that is raising money to provide clean drinking water for the people of Tanzania, Africa.

The students are hosting two events to raise funds for this project, both of which are open to the public.

A banquet will be held on Monday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Evangel’s Crusader Dining Hall. Guest speaker will be Dr. Robert H. Spence, president of the university. Tickets are $14 (with a $2 discount for students with a meal plan).

The students are also hosting a special chapel on April 11, at 6 p.m. in Evangel’s Chapel Auditorium. Admission is free but donations will be solicited.

John Bongiorno, who works with Angel Aid, is the keynote speaker. Evangel is partnering with Angel Aid for the project.

“Our goal is to raise $15,000,” said Chris Garcia, junior biblical studies major from Nogales, Ariz. “So far, we have raised $5,000.”

Garcia leads the Water Well Project team. Other key people involved include Courtney Pemberton, senior marketing major from Lenexa, Kan., John Reid, junior general studies major from Berwyn, Ill., Danielle Pemberton, senior history major from Lenexa, Kan., and Joel Casimir, junior biology major from Milford, N.H.

“Six-thousand people die each day in Africa due to bad drinking water,” said Courtney Pemberton. “We hope to save lives physically with the well. We also hope to save lives for eternity by showing Christ's love as we meet their needs.”
