Students to present at Missouri Academy of Sciences

Springfield, Mo. — Four Evangel University biology students will be presenting at the Missouri Academy of Sciences Convention in Joplin, Mo. on April 18.

The following students will be competing and presenting their research at the convention:

• Michael Bold, senior from Aurora, Ohio, presenting “A Novel Chip Interacting Class III E2 Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme.”
  
• Bonnie Carsten, senior from Stockton, Kan., presenting “Cytokine Secretion from Monocytes after Exposure to Human Cytomegalovirus.”
  
• Nathan Johnson, senior from Kansas City, Mo., presenting “The Human-Eye Dystrophin Transgene Insertion Site for a Potential Cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.”
  
• Stephen Morey, senior from Sioux City, Iowa, presenting “Detection of Replicating MHV Associated with Chronic Demyelination.”
  

“These are four exemplary and highly motivated students from the science and technology department at Evangel University,” said Dr. Glenner Richards, associate professor of biology. “During 2007, they sought summer internships that provided them opportunities to participate in biological and biochemistry research at larger institutions.”

Bold and Morey conducted practice presentations on April 7, and Carsten and Johnson will hold practice presentations Monday, April 14 in Evangel’s Trask Hall (ABII) at 10 a.m.
