44th Annual Spring Lawn Concert

Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University music department will present the 44th Annual Spring Lawn Concert Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
Three groups will perform this year — the Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Michael Kolstad, the Handbell Choir, directed by Beth McLellan, and the Jazz Band, directed by Matthew Warner.
The public is invited to bring chairs or blankets to the lawn south of the Academic Buildings (near the Glenstone entrance) and enjoy the free concert.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Evangel University Chapel Auditorium.
Features of the program:
The Jazz Ensemble will be playing Hullabaloo by Alan Baylock, Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham and Morocco by Russ Freeman and Gordon Goodwin.
The Handbell Choir will play an arrangement of Just a Closer Walk with Thee by Bruce Greer. The piece will be conducted by senior Jamie Bennett, a church music major from Ellendale, N.D.
The Symphonic Band will be playing the following selections:

- Clarinet Rag by James Ployhar
- Snow Caps by Richard Saucedo
- Rolling Thunder by Henry Fillmore
- Mack the Knife by Kurt Weill, arranged by John Moss
- Windsprints by Richard Saucedo
- Hands Across The Sea by John Philip Sousa
- Bugler’s Holiday by Leroy Anderson
- Closer Walk With Thee arranged by Don Gillis and Calvin Custer
- Whirlwinds by Richard Saucedo
- Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold, arranged by John Paynter
Following tradition, each of the senior band members will take turns conducting the band. The seniors are:
- Rebekah Yeazel, music education major from Pleasant Prairie, Wisc.
- Matt Yeazel, music education major from Monument, Colo.
- Deryk Schudy, music education major from Norwood, Mo.
- Kari Zylstra, music major from Snohomish, Wash.
- Cassandra Hill, marketing major from Springfield, Mo.
- Sean Rush, special education major from Akron, Ohio
- Jason Dietrich, Biblical studies major from Novi, Minn.
- Devon Hagerla, music education major from Edina, Mo.
- Madison Pennington, music education major from Camden, Ark.
- Dustin Bush, church music major from Mascoutah, Ill.
