Matthew WarnerWarner to perform “The Spiritual Saxophone” faculty recital

Springfield, Mo. — Matthew Warner, assistant professor of music, will be performing a faculty recital, “The Spiritual Saxophone,” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 24, in the Barnett Recital Hall at Evangel University.

The event is free and open to the public.

Warner joined the Evangel music faculty in the fall of 2005 and teaches applied saxophone, music education and music appreciation. He also directs the University Jazz Ensemble. This will be Warner’s last performance before leaving Evangel to complete his doctorate.

The concert will also feature music professor Dr. Linda Ligate on piano. Special guests Harry Beckett on piano, Richard Kittleman on bass, and junior Aaron Girdner, biology major from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on drums, will accompany Warner on two pieces.

Many musical styles will be represented at the concert from Baroque to contemporary.

The program includes Suite Hébraïque No. 1 by Srul Irving Glick, Lilith by William Bolcom, Bist du bei mir by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dear Lord by John Coltrane and Holy Roller by Libby Larsn.

Warner will also be performing his own composition, Cairns.
