Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University theatre students will perform a scene from “The Wizard of Oz” at the Gillioz Theatre on Thursday and Friday, April 24-25 prior to the showing of the classic movie at 7 p.m.
The historic Gillioz Theatre and The Moxie Cinema are partnering to present the Judy Garland classic on the big screen. The live scene was added to make it a truly memorable experience for the entire family. David Smith, associate professor of theatre arts at Evangel, will direct the scene.
Anesa Beilfuss, a 2006 Evangel graduate, will play the role of Dorothy. Beilfuss also volunteered as stage manager for Evangel’s recent production of Anne of Green Gables.
Jordan Thomas, a senior theatre major from Ozark, Mo., will portray the Tin Man. Thomas most recently portrayed Danny Zuko in the Springfield Little Theatre production of “Grease.”
Matt Coratti, a junior electronic media major from Chesapeake, Va., will portray the Scarecrow, and Erik Kiser, junior theatre education major from Meridian, Idaho, will portray the Lion.
Amber Gathright, junior theatre and music double major from Reeds Spring, Mo., will represent Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, by projecting her voice from the balcony.
Tickets for the interactive performance and movie showing are $5. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and one hour prior to the event.
