Springfield, Mo. — Exams will be finished by noon on Thursday, May 1, and during the following 24 hours, 426 Evangel University students will be consumed with graduation activities.

On Thursday at 3 p.m., the annual Baccalaureate, Awards and Honors Day ceremony will be held in the Evangel Chapel Auditorium.

This year’s speaker—selected by his peers—will be Andrew Carico, a senior government major from Bristol, Va.

Carico served as president of the Evangel Student Government Association for the past two years. He was also an active member of Pi Gamma Mu and Evangel University College Republicans.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held for the graduates and their families in Crusader Hall. There, the graduates will have the opportunity to introduce family members to President Robert H. Spence, the administrators, and their favorite professors.

On Friday at 9:30 a.m., 330 undergraduate, 35 graduate and 61 degree completion students will participate in Evangel’s 50th Commencement ceremony. The service will be held in the James River Assembly of God auditorium, on Hwy. 65, south of Springfield.

“Everyone is encouraged to allow at least 45 minutes to get through the traffic,” according to Paul K. Logsdon, spokesman for the University. “Nearly 4,000 family and friends will be present to experience the second-largest graduating class in Evangel’s history.” Last year’s class was the largest with 428 graduates.

Dr. George O. Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, will be speaking. He is a 1962 graduate of Evangel.

Founded in 1955, Evangel is the national Assemblies of God University of arts, sciences and professions. Evangel enrolls nearly 2,000 students from all 50 states and abroad, and offers more than 100 academic programs that are on the cutting edge of today’s professional fields.
