Students attend international conference in Boston

Springfield, Mo. — Five Evangel special education students attended the Council for Exceptional Children International conference in Boston, this month.

The students were able to choose from more than 500 workshops on various topics that concern teachers of special need students.

“We added to our knowledge base about teaching special kids and listened to presentations of current research in our specialty,” said Dr. Joan Cargnel, professor of education and graduate studies.

The following students participated:

• Sarah Gleason, Trenton, Mich.; senior and president of Evangel’s Student Council for Exceptional Children.
• Michael Ogle, Albia, Iowa; senior and secretary of SCEC.
• Jeanine Bartels, Springfield, Mo.; senior and member of SCEC.
• Dana Kincaid, Coppell, Texas; sophomore and member of SCEC.
• Lauren Silva, Crown Point, Ind.; sophomore and member of SCEC.
  

Dr. Cargnel and Randy Byers, assistant professor of education, accompanied the students on the trip. This is the first time students have attended the CEC International conference.

The event was sponsored by LifeWorks, Evangel’s center for leadership and life calling.
