Evangel awards 2 full-tuition, 10 half-tuition scholarships

Springfield, Mo. — Evangel University has announced the recipients of the 2008 Founders Scholarships, the highest academic scholarships the University awards. Two incoming freshmen will receive full-tuition scholarships, and 10 incoming freshmen will receive half-tuition scholarships.
Evangel began offering the Founders Scholarships in 2006 to students who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to Christ and to high academic achievement.
Incoming freshmen are eligible to apply for the scholarships if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8 and at least a 30 ACT composite score or a 1320 or more on their SAT 1 (critical reading and math).
“The scholarships are renewable for four years, as long as eligibility requirements are maintained,” according to Andy Denton, vice president for enrollment management.
The following students will receive the 2008 Founders Scholarships:
Full-tuition scholarship
- Allison Berner, daughter of Dennis and Donna Berner, Augusta, Kan., attends Augusta High School and will enroll in the pre-pharmacy program.
- Adam Grumke, son of Curtis and Pamela Grumke, Blue Springs, Mo., attends Blue Springs High School and will major in biology.
Half-tuition scholarship
- Natalie Akins, daughter of Rick and Jill Akins, Springfield, Mo., attends Parkview High School and will major in business administration and marketing.
- Andrea Anderson, daughter of Chris and Starla Anderson, Carthage, Mo., attends Carthage High School and will major in missions as well as enroll in the pre-medicine program.
- Renee Griffith, daughter of Lew and Christine Griffith, Butte, Mont., attends Butte High School and will major in missions.
- Nicholas Hestand, son of James and Melinda Hestand, Lee’s Summit, Mo., attends Lee’s Summit North High School and will major in chemistry.
- Zachary Jones, son of Warren Jones and Trena Corcoran, both of La Grange, Ill., attends Lyons Township High School and will major in biblical studies.
- Joshua McCaleb, son of James and Elaine McCaleb, Texarkana, Texas, attends Texas High School and will major in biblical studies.
- Jeffery Pierce, son of Jeffery Pierce and Belinda Borders, both of Avon, Ohio, attends Avon High School and will major in theatre.
- Peter Rasmussen, son of Norm and Nancy Rasmussen, Platte City, Mo., attends Platte County High School and will begin his freshman year in general studies.
- Lauren Slawik, daughter of Tom and Karen Slawik, Tinley Park, Ill., attends Victor J. Andrew High School and will enroll in the pre-medicine program.
- Ryan Thomas, son of Randall and LaVona Thomas, Sand Springs, Okla., attends Evangelistic Temple School and will major in business.
Evangel is the national Assemblies of God university of arts, sciences and professions, offering more than 100 academic programs of study. Approximately 2,000 students enroll annually from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.
Dr. Robert H. Spence is president, and Dr. Glenn H. Bernet is vice president for academic affairs and dean of the University.
