The 2008 Evangel softball team will take to the field on Friday, May 2, for first round games in the Heart of America Athletic Conference softball tournament at Springfield’s Meador Park.

Evangel and Central Methodist tied for the regular season conference championship and, working their way through the tiebreaker system, conference officials had to use the final step - a coin toss - to determine the top two seeds. Central Methodist won the toss and is the No. 1 seed. Evangel is the No. 2 seed.

Evangel (24-14) will play No. 7 seed MidAmerica Nazarene (14-29) at noon on May 2. Other games at noon are No. 1 Central Methodist (27-12) vs. No. 8 Missouri Valley (16-25), No. 3 Lindenwood (32-12) vs. No. 6 Benedictine (25-14), and No. 4 William Jewell (29-23) vs. No. 5 Culver-Stockton (21-22). The double-elimination tournament will continue with games at 2, 4, and 6 on May 2. On Saturday, May 3, the games will continue at 10 a.m. and noon with the championship game set to begin at 2 p.m. If necessary, another game will follow at 4 p.m.

Under the direction of 15-year head coach Jerry Breaux, the Lady Crusaders have now won five conference championship in a row and nine titles overall - more than any other team at Evangel.
