The Lady Crusader softball team is seeded No. 3 in the NAIA Region V Softball Tournament, which is to begin on May 6 and continue through May 8 at Springfield’s Meador Park. Evangel faces No. 6 seed Williams Baptist College (Ark.) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. All of Evangel’s games will be webcast at www.allinbroadcasting.com. Ed Beach, Evangel’s director of marketing and broadcasting for athletics, will handle the play-by-play.
Other first-round games on Tuesday feature No. 1 seed Columbia (Mo.) College vs. No. 8 William Jewell College (Mo.) at noon, No. 2 Central Methodist University (Mo.) vs. No. 7 Missouri Baptist University at noon and No. 4 Lindenwood University (Mo.) vs. No. 5 William Woods University (Mo.) at 2. Following the first round games, the losers will square off in two games at 4 p.m. and the winners will play two contests at 6 p.m.
The double-elimination tourney continues on Wednesday, May 7, with games at noon, 2, 4, and 6. The championship game is set for a noon start on Thursday, May 8. If needed, another game will follow at 2 p.m. In case of rain, the tournament will be finished on Friday, May 9.
Evangel (27-16) is making its eighth overall and fifth straight appearance in the region tournament. The Lady Crusaders tied with Central Methodist for the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship this season. The 2008 conference championship is Evangel’s fifth in a row and ninth overall.
