Springfield, Mo. — Major General Cecil R. Richardson, U.S. Air Force, will be the speaker at the Evangel University Homecoming Banquet, Saturday, October 11, at 6:30 p.m. The banquet will be held at the University Plaza Convention Center.

Background on the speaker

Last December, President George W. Bush nominated Richardson for the position of Chief of Chaplains for the U.S. Air Force. In May, Chaplain Richardson assumed command of that post and was promoted to Major General.

As Chief of Chaplains, he is the senior pastor for more than 800,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve, and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. He also leads the Air Force Chaplain Service of approximately 2,200 chaplains and chaplain assistants, and he advises the Secretary of Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff on religious, ethical, and quality-of-life concerns.

Richardson graduated from Evangel University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies and from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Ill., in 1976 with a Master of Divinity in Hebrew studies. He was Evangel’s 2002 Distinguished Alumnus.
