Evangel Conference Basketball Polls

The Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) released the coaches’ basketball polls today at the league’s annual media luncheon in Kansas City. The Evangel men are picked to finish second and the Lady Crusaders are fifth.
MidAmerica is at the top of the men’s poll with 95 points. Evangel tallied 91 points. The Crusaders received four first-place votes and the Pioneers of MidAmerica Nazarene had six. The two teams tied for the HAAC championship last season. In third place, with 81 points and the remaining first-place vote, is William Jewell. Central Methodist held onto the fourth slot by a point, 69-68, over Lindenwood. Rounding out the men’s poll are Benedictine (51 points), Missouri Valley (42), Baker (39), Graceland (32), Avila (26) and Culver-Stockton (11).
William Jewell is favored to win the women’s conference title in 2008-09. The Cardinals gathered six first-place votes and 96 points. Benedictine received four first-place nods and 90 points. MidAmerica Nazarene’s women are picked third with 78 points and Avila is fourth with 73 points and the remaining first-place vote. Evangel totaled 50 points for fifth, followed by Baker (48), Lindenwood (42), Missouri Valley (34), Graceland (31), Culver-Stockton (21) and Central Methodist (17). Benedictine won the HAAC championship last season.
