Springfield, MO — Evangel University’s football team leads the nation with 10 members honored by the NAIA as Daktronics Scholar-Athletes. The NAIA announced their national All-Academic team today.
Among those receiving honors are former Hillcrest standout Andrew Matrone and quarterback Richie Roepke from Strafford. In addition, Trevor Gies (Berryville, Ark.), Jeff Hedrick (Harrisonville, Mo.), Dexter Henderson (Navasota, Texas), Michael Ryswyk (Lawton, Ok.), David Sabastian (Helena, Mont.), Joel Stevens (Fruitland, Idaho), Caleb Taylor (Morristown, Penn.), and Jonathan Watterson (Kansas City, Mo.) also represent the Crusaders as national Scholar-Athletes.
To achieve national All-Academic Team honors, student-athletes must be a junior or senior and maintain between a 3.5 and 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
