Evangel alumna named president of Vanguard University

Dr. Carol TaylorSpringfield, Mo — Evangel University alumna Dr. Carol Taylor was named president of Vanguard University, Costa Mesa, Calif., on Friday, March 6. She is the first woman to serve Vanguard as president in its 90-year history.

Dr. Taylor has served at Vanguard since August 2007, as provost and vice president of academic affairs.

Dr. Taylor graduated from Evangel in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. Following that, she accumulated more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience, including seven as vice provost at Biola University, and 12 in research and administration at ETS: Educational Testing Service, Princeton, N.J. ETS develops and administers tests such as the SAT and the GRE.

She also holds a Ph.D. in multilingual/multicultural education from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in cross-cultural communication from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

According to a message from Dr. Russell Spittler, acting chair of the board of trustees at Vanguard, “In appointing Dr. Taylor president, the board recognizes...her even-tempered and clear-eyed managerial judgments, her deep and wide support within the Vanguard community, her capacity to sustain morale, her versatility and her equanimity of Spirit.”
