Students attend 16th annual National Character and Leadership Symposium hosted by Air Force Academy

Springfield, Mo — Four Evangel University students were chosen to attend the 16th annual National Character and Leadership Symposium (NCLS) Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Those attending the conference included:
- Lt. Col. (Ret.) Dale Garrett, assistant professor of social sciences and sponsor for the group
- Nick Boeser, sophomore history major from Springfield, Mo.
- Sarah Elizabeth Jones, junior social studies education major from Kansas City, Mo.
- Camille Reid, freshman government major from Ballwin, Mo.
- Daniel Sandoz, senior government major from St. Paul, Neb.
The NCLS brings together distinguished scholars, armed forces leaders, corporate presidents and others to explore various dimensions of character and leadership.
Students who possess outstanding characteristics in leadership, commitment, and spiritual vitality were selected from across the country to engage with USAF cadets over a three-day period and attended seminars with some of the most highly sought after speakers in the world today.
Speakers that students had the opportunity of interacting with included:
- Tom Osborne, athletic director at Nebraska University. He was the Huskers’ most successful football coach and is also a former U.S. Congressman.
- Gene Kranz, former director of mission operations for NASA. He was the director for the Apollo 13 mission.
- Marie Tillman, president and CEO of The Pat Tillman Foundation. She is the widow of Pat Tillman, a former NFL player who was killed in Afghanistan.
- Darrell Scot, founder of the “Rachel’s Challenge” Foundation. He is the father of Rachel Scot, who was the first girl killed in the Columbine High School massacre.
