Springfield, Mo — The Department of Social Sciences at Evangel University will present its 2009 Regius Award to Dr. Troy Paino on April 13, 2009, during the department’s annual banquet.
Paino, a 1985 history and philosophy graduate of Evangel, is the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Truman State University.
He was nominated by Dr. J. Calvin Holsinger, professor emeritus and honored local historian. Holsinger taught Paino when he was a student at Evangel.
“Troy was bright, insightful and interested,” says Holsinger. “He did good academic work, and the departmental faculty all knew he would be a valuable contributor to society. We are not at all surprised that he continued to do well.”
Paino will be presented with a “Book of Memories” from his classmates, professors at Evangel and other people influential to his professional career.
Since 1990, Evangel’s social sciences department has been presenting an annual Regius Award to honor its alumni for outstanding professional accomplishments.
Past recipients of the Regius Award include Dr. Arnold “Bud” Greve, former superintendent of Springfield (Mo.) Public Schools; the Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan, federal judge on the district court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago; and Dr. David W. Clark, president of W.
