Springfield, Mo — Two Evangel theology professors were presenters at the Society for Pentecostal Studies Conference in Eugene, Ore., last month.
Dr. Martin Mittelstadt, associate professor of New Testament, and Dr. Lois Olena, adjunct professor of theology, participated in a symposium titled “Honoring Stanley Horton.” The panel, chaired by Dr. George O. Wood, also included Dr. Stanley Burgess, Dr. Russell Spittler, Bishop Lemuel Thuston, and Dr. Ken Horn.
Dr. Olena discussed elements of her recent article, “Stanley M. Horton: A Pentecostal Journey,” and the soon-to-be-released biography, “Stanley M. Horton: Shaper of Pentecostal Theology.”
Dr. Mittelstadt presented excerpts from an article coauthored with Matthew Paugh, “The Social Conscience of Stanley Horton,” which focused on Horton’s role as conscientious objector in World War II and as an agent of racial reconciliation.
Mittelstadt presented a second paper, “Spirit and Peace in Luke-Acts: Possibilities for Pentecostal/Anabaptist Dialogue.”
