SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A group of five Evangel students, two faculty/staff members and five other medical professionals recently traveled to Asia, where they provided free medical, dental and optical care.
“As a team, we were able to help many people,” says staff sponsor Susie Bryan.
According to faculty sponsor Erica Harris, the team provided free healthcare in 755 appointments during the four days of the clinic, including 323 in the medical area, 296 in the optical area, and 136 in the dental area.
“It was a valuable learning experience for our students,” Bryan said. “They were excellent, working hard to assist the medical professionals and serve the people there.”
The group included:
- Emily Black, sophomore pre-nursing major from Branson, Mo.
- Erika Davis, junior pre-nursing major from Grand Junction, Colo.
- Emily Nance, senior biology (pre-medicine) major from Harrison, Ark.
- Brian Patterson, junior biology (pre-dental) major from Beaumont, Texas
- W. Tyler Whitmire, senior biology (pre-medicine) major from Rolla, Mo.
- Erica Harris, assistant professor of biology at Evangel
- Susan Bryan, nurse practitioner and director of Wellness Center at Evangel
- Dr. Rick Honderick, physician from Springfield, Mo.
- Dr. Rob Puleo, dentist from Flemington, N.J.
- Kathleen Smith, physician assistant from Springfield, Mo.
- Dr. Todd Pierson, optometrist from Branson, Mo.
- Brian Pierson, pharmacist from Springfield, Mo.
