Baylor distinguished professor of philosophy to speak at Evangel

Jonathan Kvanvig

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jonathan Kvanvig, distinguished professor of philosophy at Baylor University, will be speaking at Evangel University Monday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage room.

He will address philosophical theology and the dispute between Calvinism, Arminianism, and Open Theism.

There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to attend.

Speaker bio

Jonathan Kvanvig received his Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies from Evangel, 1977; his Master of Arts in philosophy from the University of Missouri, 1979; and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame, 1982.

Dr. Kvanvig is an expert in metaphysics and epistemology as well as philosophy of religion. He has published eight books and more than 100 articles to date, including The Value of Knowledge and the Pursuit of Understanding, The Problem of Hell, and The Knowability Paradox.

He is also the editor of the annual publication of Oxford Studies in Philosophy of Religion, the latest addition to the prestigious Oxford Studies Series, and organizes an annual philosophy of religion conference associated with the series. In addition, he is the administrator of Certain Doubts, a weblog devoted to matters epistemic.

Dr. Kvanvig, a highly regarded teacher in both the graduate and undergraduate level of the Philosophy Department, joined the faculty of Baylor University in the fall of 2006. He previously taught at Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and served as department chair at the University of Missouri.
