Saint Louis Brass Quintet

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Saint Louis Brass Quintet will perform at Evangel University Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Recital Hall.

This Artist Series event is free and open to the public.

Although the members of the Saint Louis Brass Quintet look formal when they perform, audiences are pleasantly surprised at the relaxed and informal atmosphere they create. They perform the entire spectrum of music for brass, including the music of classical Baroque composers to modern Jazz arrangements.

The group brings many of the ancestors of the brass family of instruments, starting with the animal’s horn and the conch shell, to the short trumpet found in King Tut’s tomb, to a fourteenth century straight trombone, and onward into the present.

Founded in 1964, the SLBQ has performed at more than 2,700 engagements. They have toured extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Germany and Japan, and their music has been highlighted in festivals around the world including The Norway Brass Band Festival and The Bombay Brass Festival in India.

Members of the group include trumpet soloists Allan Dean and Ray Sasaki, hornist Thomas Bacon, trombonist Melvyn Jernigan, and tubist Daniel Perantoni.
