Show Synopsis

Macbeth, William Shakespeare’s shortest and greatest tragedy, is a tale of greed, corruption and death that follows Macbeth’s transformation from a hero to a bloody tyrant.

A prediction by three witches that Macbeth will become King of Scotland causes him to wonder if he should not help make it happen. To Macbeth’s dismay, King Duncan declares his eldest son, Malcolm, will be the next king. Lady Macbeth learns of the three witches’ prediction and decides to persuade her husband to fulfill his destiny through foul play. Macbeth murders Duncan. He forgets to return the daggers to the king’s guards, so Lady Macbeth does it for him, bloodying herself, too.

Macbeth loses himself to insanity and fearing anyone who may rise up against him, sets off on a murderous rampage. He visits the three witches again. They tell him “beware Macduff,” “none of woman borne will harm Macbeth,” and “Macbeth will be until Birnam Wood come to Dunsinane Hill.”

Macbeth sends assassins to kill Macduff’s family. Macduff learns about his dead and with Duncan’s son Malcolm, they rise with Siward and his army to slay Macbeth. Macbeth kills Siward, and then Macduff and Macbeth fight. Macduff informs Macbeth that he was ripped from his mother’s womb, and thus not born of woman. Macduff kills Macbeth and then crowns Malcolm the new King of Scotland.
